Marshall Electric Department to

Conduct Utility Pole Assessment

Marshall, MI—On Wednesday, April 20, 2022, the Marshall Electric Department and its contractor, Best Electric, will begin a survey and condition assessment of the City's electric utility poles. Best Electric will assess the condition of each wooden pole and identify potential electric safety issues. Information collected through the survey will allow the City to prioritize wooden pole replacements and to address any safety issues identified during the survey.

The survey will include approximately 3,000 wooden poles across the municipal electric utility service area, and is expected to take approximately five weeks to complete. Electric service to City electric consumers will not be impacted by the pole survey.

During the pole survey, Best Electric representatives will work along streets and alleys and within electric easements, including backyard electric easements. Best Electric’s survey vehicles will clearly display the firm’s logo and City of Marshall Contractor identification. Safety green shirts worn by Best Electric representatives feature the firm's logo on the back.

Best Electric representatives will continue their work the week of May 9 on Michigan Ave and then will move into the north east section for utility services. This includes 18 1/2 Mile Rd, East Dr, Ferguson, Gordon, E Mansion, E Prospect and the surrounding areas.

Customers are encouraged to check the City of Marshall website (www.cityofmarshall.com) and Facebook page (City of Marshall, MI – Government) for updates on where pole survey work is occurring.

Questions regarding the pole survey and assessment may be directed to Director of Electric Utilities Kevin Maynard at 269.558.0329, or via email at kmaynard@cityofmarshall.com.
