Public Works

The City of Marshall Department of Public Works (DPW) is composed of the following main service areas:

  • Streets
  • Sewer Maintenance
  • Forestry
  • Parks
  • Cemetery
  • Compost Center

The Public Works garage is located at 616 Homer Road across from the Oakridge Cemetery. The DPW is responsible for the maintenance and repair of 56 miles of streets, 34 miles of sidewalks, 36 miles of storm sewer pipes, 42 miles of sewer mains and 233 acres of designated public parks. Other responsibilities include management and care of the cemetery, parks maintenance, snow and ice removal, fall leaf pick-up, spring brush pick-up and street sweeping. The 7 full time and 9 part-time seasonal employees of the Public Works Department will continue to provide high quality customer service to the citizens of Marshall that residents have come to know and to expect.






The City of Marshall Public Works Crews will begin leaf pick up on or about Monday, October 19, 2020.


The crews will begin in the Southeast Section (south of Michigan Ave.), move clockwise to the Southwest Section (south of Michigan Ave.), then to the Northwest Section, and finally to the Northeast Section. Crews will make a second pass beginning in the Southeast Section upon completion of the first round.  There will be no third pass for leaf pick-up and we will not return to previously completed areas for additional clean-up, please be mindful of our progress.


·         Leaves should be placed between the sidewalk and the curb.

·         No leaves should be placed in the roadway!

·         Leaves mixed with brush or debris cannot be picked up and will become the property owner’s responsibility.

·         Bagged leaves may be taken to the Compost Site.

It is expected that the FINAL PICK UP will be completed by November 25, or sooner in your area. The Compost Center at the DPW garage will remain open Tuesday 3-5:30 Friday and Saturday 9-3 until the last day of operation for the compost site on November 21, 2020.
