IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING

THE MARSHALL AREA FARMERS’ MARKET

Your Marshall Area Farmer’s Market is committed to the wellness and safety of its customers, vendors, volunteers, and the entire community. With that in mind, the Market will be opening for the summer season on Saturday, May 9th at 8 a.m. — but with extra precautions.

At the MAFM, customers will continue to have access to vendors who sell fresh, high-quality agricultural products grown and raised locally. Knowing who grows our food is important during this crisis.

Advisory Board Chair, Martin Overheiser has said, “We are adopting a ‘Shop and Home’ model.” “Out with music for the first few weeks, special activities, lengthy conversations and anything that would invite lingering!”  “In with hand wash station, ‘shopping with your eyes,’ and chalk marks showing customers where to stand in line.”

The Market has developed a set of rules, taking guidance from the Calhoun County Health Department, MIFMA, Michigan Governor’s executive orders and CDC :

  • Masks will be strongly encouraged for customers
  • Hand washing. Stations will be available along with hand sanitizer
  • Vendors will be required to wear masks and gloves.
  • Traffic control Customers will follow a prescribed path to enter and exit the market.
  • Customer Limits. There will also be limits on the number of people who can attend the Market at any one time.
  • No touching the produce or any products. Customers will point to produce/products and allow vendors to handle on their behalf.
  • No direct exchange of money There will be no hand-to-hand exchanges. Customers will put their money on the table, the vendor will pick it up and then make the change, and place that on the table. Then the customer will pick that up.
  • No bagging of food. The vendor will put the produce in a bag, and then those bags can be placed into reusable bags customers bring

Please know that we are keeping a close eye on this situation and will be following the lead of the Calhoun County Health Department and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as it relates to other market gatherings.

We love the Marshall Area Farmers Market and all the Customers who make it great. We look forward to a successful market year ahead and hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

   Pam Wolfersberger, Market Manager

It’s Saturday! Imagine entering our Market at 125 West Green and before you are a multitude of white canopies featuring tables displaying an abundance of fresh, local vegetables and fruits. Herbs, flowers and cinnamon bread aromas envelop your senses as early morning shoppers stroll amid the wide aisles.  There are smiles and casual conversations ensuing as people sip coffee while relaxing at tables on the grassy knolls. Children may delight in the talents of a balloon artist while you stop to listen to a guitarist strum a tune

In operation since 2002, the Marshall Area Farmers’ Market has operated in Marshall’s downtown area bringing fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, baked goods, plants and flowers, and more to Marshall’s citizens and visitors to our historic city. We’re proud of our commitment to supporting our Michigan based local farmers, growers, artisans and producers which also supports sustainable economies and environmental practices while providing employment and income to our citizens.   Come for the day or the weekend when you can also visit our quaint retail stores nearby and relax in one of our charming inns or Bed and Breakfast homes.
