Marshall Electric Dept Cancels Peak Alert for June 16, 2022

Thursday June 16, 2022 - Friday June 17, 2022

The public appeal to conserve electric use during the peak times of 2pm-7pm requested on 6/13/2022 has been cancelled.

Marshall Electric Department Cancels Peak Alert for Thursday, June 16, 2022

Due to moderating temperatures and power supply prices across the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) footprint, the Marshall Electric Department is cancelling its planned Peak Alert for today (Thursday, June 16).

The City of Marshall is interconnected with the ITC Holdings (ITC) high voltage transmission system. This transmission system is used to deliver electric energy to the City from outside generating resources and the power supply market.

The ITC transmission system is part of MISO. MISO is responsible for operating the power grid across 15 U.S. states stretching from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the Canadian province of Manitoba.

Marshall’s electric demands this afternoon are not expected to exceed the peak demand established yesterday. Power supply prices have also decreased since yesterday.

As a result, the Marshall Electric Department is cancelling its planned Peak Alert today.

Reducing the City’s peak demand, reduces ITC’s monthly ITC transmission charges and also helps avoid higher-cost market power purchases—costs that would otherwise make their way into customer electric bills.

The City extends its thanks to all who assisted with helping reduce the community’s peak electric demands Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Although these efforts may be small individually, collectively they help make a difference.

With higher temperatures forecasted next week, the City may again ask for voluntary conservation efforts. Check the City Facebook page and website (www.cityofmarshall.com) for updates.
