The City has 4 wells that supply water to City residents. Wells 1, 2, and 4 will each produce about 1,200 gallons per minute (gpm). Well No.3 supplies about 1,000 gpm. All four well pumps are powered by 75hp electric motors. The City’s average daily demand is in the range of 1.2 million gallons per day (mgd). The maximum daily demand is about 2.5 mgd. The maximum daily capacity of the wells is approximately 4.3 mgd. Normal daily demands could be met with two of the four wells out of service. A diesel generator was installed in December 1999 which is capable of operating two pumps and the water treatment plant in case of power failure.

The current treatment plant has 4 pressure filters that filter iron and manganese from the raw water. The treatment plant originally had 6 pressure filters that were replaced in 1996 because of failures in the infrastructure of the filters. The raw water is treated with potassium permanganate, an oxidizing agent to enhance iron and manganese removal, chlorine used to disinfect against bacteria and viruses, fluoride, an additive to enhance dental protection and phosphate for corrosion control in the distribution system.
